dass man sich mittlerweile Follower auf ebay kaufen kann? Darauf hat mein Mann Marko mich neulich aufmerksam gemacht als ich ihm vorweinte, wie wenig Leute sich erst auf meinem Blog angemeldet haben.
Natürlich ziehe ich es nicht in Erwägung, von dieser Möglichkeit Gebrauch zu machen sondern werde mich stattdessen wohl weiterhin in mehr Geduld üben müssen.

that you can buy followers on ebay nowadays? My hubby told me this the other day when I was complaining about the fact that only a few people have joined my site, so far. Of course I am not really considering this possibility but will teach myself in patience for another while instead.

Wie versprochen werde ich euch heute eine meiner Lieblingsdecken zeigen. Vor dem Hintergrund etwas nähen zu wollen, dass mich immer an meine Eltern und mein zu Hause erinnern wird, habe ich sie vor etwa 3 Jahren selbst entworfen und ein ganzes Jahr daran gearbeitet.
Sie zeigt typische Szenen unseres Landlebens - z. b. die allherbstliche Apfelernte, bei der immer die ganze Familie eingespannt ist, die tägliche Hausarbeit und unsere spielenden Jungs im Garten.
In den Stickmotiven ist alles verarbeitet, was uns wichtig ist. Unsere Hobbies, der Garten, Freizeit... . Ich hoffe, Euch gefällt der kleine Einblick in unsere ländliche Idylle.

As promised I will show you one of my favorite quilts today. As I had intended to sew something that will always remind me of my parents and of my home I designed it about three years ago and  it took about one year to finish it.
It shows typical scenes of our country life - for example the apple harvest in every fall where all of the family are engaged, the housework and our boys playing in the garden. The stitchings show everything important to us. Our hobbies, the garden our spare time activities... . I hope you will enjoy the little insight into our idyllic country scene.

die Sue- und Billy-Applikationen sind dem Buch Les Petites Histoires de Sue et Billy von Reiko Kato entnommen und gegebenenfalls ein wenig verändert worden.

The Sue- and Billy-Appliquees are taken from Reiko Kato´s book Les Petites Histoires de Sue et Billy and were varied when necessary.

Übrigens: In Brügge war es wunderschön. Wir sind nicht so die ganz großen Urlauber, deshalb sind nur zwei Übernachtungen genau das richtige für uns. Am Strand im holländischen Catzand hatten wir - wie so oft im Urlaub - eine Begegnung der etwas anderen Art, wie Ihr auf dem Schnappschuss hier unten sehen könnt. Da die Stickarbeit noch keine nennenswerte Fortschritte zeigt, werde ich mich mit dem Foto für heute verabschieden.

By the way: It was wonderful in Bruges. As we all tend to feel homesick after a while a two-nights-stay is always the best for us. We had  - as often when we are on holiday - an encounter of that special kind on the beach of Catzand in the Netherlands as you can see on the snapshot below. As there is no real progress concerning the stitching project, yet I will leave you with this picture.

Dies und das - this and that

Als ich 1991 für einen Tag die Amish im Dutch Country/ Pennsylvania besuchte, zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben einen Patchworkladen betrat und diese wunderbaren Quilts sah, war ich absolut beeindruckt  - von der Landschaft, der Lebensweise dieser Menschen und ihrer Kunst gleichermaßen.
Vor zwei Wochen bin ich nun im Internet auf diese wunderbare Stickvorlage gestoßen - na ja, ehrlich gesagt, habe ich danach gesucht. Ich kann nicht im geringsten abschätzen, wie lange es dauern wird, bis dieses Bild fertig sein wird aber ich freue mich wahnsinnig darauf, es in Angriff zu nehmen.

When I visited the Amish People in Dutch Country/Pennsylvania in 1991 and went into a quilt shop for the first time in my life I was absolutely impressed of both - of their way of life as well as of their quilts and artwork. I found this cross stich pattern in the internet two weeks ago and simply had to buy it. Now I´m really looking forward to starting this project - no matter how long it will take to finish it.

Hier unten seht ihr die "Immer zur Hand - Box" mit meinen Stickgarnen. Ganz schön peinlich, was? Ich schaffe es einfach nicht, dauerhaft Ordnung in dieses Chaos zu bringen. 

Below you can see my "always at hand stitching-box". Quite embarrassing, isn´t it? I simply don´t manage to keep it organized.

Da die Vorlage mehr als 40 verschiedene Farben verlangt, habe ich die Farben, die mein Fundus nicht hergab bzw. immer aufgebraucht sind nachgekauft. Dabei habe ich mich nicht an die Vorgabe gehalten, sondern - mit Rücksicht auf die typischen Amish-Farben - die genommen, die mir am besten gefallen. 

As the template demands more than 40 different colors I had to buy those that I didn´t have or are always used up. I didn´t stick to the recommended colors and bought those that I like, instead - but tried to select typical Amish colors, of course.

Ich dachte, es wäre nicht schlecht, noch ein paar Sachen für den Kunsthandwerkermarkt im September zu nähen, bevor ich mit dem Sticken beginne. Ich hatte noch 3 Fotoalben vorrätig, die auf einen Einband warteten und tatsächlich auch 3 verschiedene Motive im Kopf. Angefangen habe ich mit den Eulen - wahrscheinlich aus reiner Profitgier, weil Eulen sich einfach immer verkaufen. Beschämend, nicht wahr?

I thought it would be a good idea to sew a couple of things for the forthcoming crafters´ market in September before  starting to stitch. I had three picture albums waiting for a cover and  three different design ideas  in my mind, too. I have to admit that the reason for sewing the one with the owls first was the fact that owls always sell best. Shame on me!

Aus eben diesem - verwerflichen - Grund habe ich dann auch die beiden anderen Einbände zur Seite gelegt und stattdessen angefangen, diese Schlüsselhalter zu nähen, von denen aber erst einer fertig ist.

For the same - condemnable -  reason I put the two other covers away and started to sew these key holders, instead. Only one is finished, yet.

Ich kann aber nicht nur Eulen. Für unsere Jungs habe ich zur Kommunion diese beiden Bucheinbände genäht.

But I can make more than just owls. I made these missal covers for the boys´ first communion.

Nächstes mal werde ich euch einen meiner Lieblingsquilts vorstellen. Hier eine kleine Vorschau.

So, jetzt geht es erst mal für drei Tage an die belgische Küste und nach Brügge. Dort gibt es (hoffentlich noch) einen der schönsten Quiltläden der Welt, der laut seiner Homepage zum 31. Juli schließen wird. Drückt mir die Daumen, dass ich noch das ein oder andere Schnäppchen ergattern kann.

Well, we´ll be heading for the Belgian coast and Bruges on Tuesday. In Bruges you can find one of the most beautiful quiltshops in the world. I hope there will be some fabrics left and I will be able to make a bargain there as they told on their homepage that the shop will be closed by July, 31st. So keep your fingers crossed for me.

Nicht fix aber alles fertig - not fast but all finished

Anstatt vieler Worte wird es heute eine wahrhaftige Flut an Bildern geben.

Kennt ihr das auch, dass man während des Nähens oft denkt, dass die ganze Arbeit nicht zum erwünschten Ergebnis führen wird und am Ende doch alles gut wird?

Was denkt ihr... kann ich zufrieden sein?

Do you also make the experience from time to time that while sewing you are afraid that all the work won´t lead to the result that you have been desiring ... and after all everything ends well? What do you think... May I be content?

Womit ich sehr zufrieden bin ist das Ergebnis der Renovierungsarbeiten der Kinderzimmer. Konstantin, "Pubi" und Fahrradfan, wollte unbedingt viel Grün und Schwarz, sein kleiner "Bruder Jakob" , unser Karatemann mit einem ausgeprägten Faible für alles Asiatische, Türkis und einen Hauch von Asien.  

I´m content with the result of the redocoration of the boys´ rooms. Konstantin, "Puby" and biker, wanted green and black and his little brother, our karate kid with a strong weakness for everything Asian preferred turquois and a touch of Asia.

Ich glaube sagen zu müssen, dass die Zimmer in Natura schöner aussehen als auf den Fotots... mmh... und ich denke, IHR werdet MIR glauben müssen, ;-)

I think I have to tell you that the rooms look better in reality than on the pictures... mmh... and I think you´ll have to believe me, ;-)
